Inspiration and Concept - Ceramics -
Objects that have a Soul
All objects and products have a cycle in which they are conceived, created, used, loved, disposed or passed along to other people or generations. My intention is to create objects that go beyond being a mere tangible product that you can use and dispose. I want the objects I make to have a warm and special relationship with their owners from the very first time they meet and through their life together. This is the main reason why they are all uniquely hand crafted.. Even though I use a mould for some of them, each of the pieces has a different feeling and "personality". Each of the pieces have a soul.
The Feminine Divine
Feminine and Masculine forces are not only about being man or woman. I like working on the idea of reconnecting with the feminine aspect of ourselves which would reconnect us with Nature and Earth. The feminine has a central part to play in the work of global transformation. We need to work on our sensibility and intuition as well as the capacity to connect and care for others. This subject appears constantly in my work with ceramics as well as reflexions on what it is to be a woman today and motherhood.
Community and relationship
I explore the meanings of being part of a group and the interactions between people. The deep need for community and its strength as an alternative path to an extreme consumer and individualist society.
Philosophy, Spirituality and Religion
I work with symbols, archetypes and in general with my personal experiences through Yoga, Dance, Theosophy and Christianity among others. I like the idea of finding a spiritual path where you can enjoy finding yourself as part of that oneness of the Universe. I was brought up in Colombia with a strong religious background where Catholic belief mixes with Shamanic and indigenous ways of religion.
Colombia
Being Colombian is quite particular. Because we are the result of a big cultural mix and our country varies so much in social and geographic aspects, it is hard to find a general identity. Despite all the bad press and the difficulties that people have to face in day to day life, Colombia is a place with lots of beautiful things which never stop to inspire me. I take those that can generate a positive message or feeling and use them constantly in my work. Some of these inspirations are dance, music, landscapes, nature, family, humour, smile, food, creativity and spirituality among others.
